Skelly returned from a family vacation to be present after Nichols' arrest. 'I'm very surprised that this happened, if it happened,' Skelly said. ... 10-11-02: The 10-11-02 issue of the Falcon stated that Nichols resigned before the story broke. Interesting. The paper also wrote: Aside from inherent curiosity, some students are actually interested in the Nichols case because they are troubled or anxious. ... possibly even learn a lesson or two. The word troubled is also interesting.
11-19-02: No contest plea.

12-11-02: Skelly said the district did a full background check before hiring Nichols, visiting the schools where he previously taught and talking with co-workers. 'There was nothing faulty in his background check. I don't know anything that we could have done to prevent this. But we blew it. I feel bad that he was hired we chose the wrong person.' 3-19-03: In a telephone conversation, Fein stated that Skelly's prior knowledge was not an issue and not investigated.
3-24-03: In a telephone conversation, Schulman stated that he did not believe that Skelly knew anything, and that such knowledge would not help Nichols in any way.
5-16-03: Five Saratoga High School students names were given to police by principal. It is critical to know when these names became of concern to the principal. (File ACR 4610 at Appeals)
