JUNE 25 - I'm going to make some observations about the current Congress which might seem outlandish to some, but which should be angering to lawmakers. Since no one in Congress is talking about President Clinton's Executive Order #13083, I'm left to draw my own conclusions. As of now, since most of my claims are unsubstantiated, congressmen who read my assessment of their behavior have an open invitation to disagree, and should consider my diatribe a challenge to refute my words and be convincing about it.
Because of Executive Order #13083, dubiously entitled 'Federalism' and ironically signed in England May 14th, I believe Congress will soon pass into insignificance. The order, which effectively kills the Constitution and especially states rights by subjugating them to the nearly unlimited power of newly legitimized federal agencies, has driven a wooden stake through the heart of the Congress-beast. For all it's flaws, Congress needs to retain its full powers if we're to remain a free society.
But Congress isn't fighting back. Most Democrats are too socialist these days to even acknowledge that our nation is supposed to be a republic, while Republicans are serendipitously insisting that Clinton take, among other relics, a copy of the Constitution to China with him, so he can ostensibly give these icons of western freedom to Tianenman's butchers in the Square. Most congressmen I've contacted either say they've not heard of EO #13083, have a copy of it but haven't 'studied' it yet, or know about it and approve [Republican Dick Lugar's spokesman said that].
This laconic attitude can only be explained in a few ways.
Senators and representatives have a lot on their plates, and since this EO was only made public less than two weeks ago [and hasn't been addressed by any mainstream source as of yet], it's understandable that some may not know of its existence. Clinton certainly didn't advertise it, and there was no press coverage of the signing while he was in England some months ago chumming it up with his alter ego Prime Minister Tony Blair.
But those who are aware of this order and know what's in it, but have chosen to ignore its importance, are A) so far on the take that they're impotent to stop its implementation; B) so ignorant of the Constitution that they have committed 'unforgivable incompetence' by having no idea they're supposed to be in charge of making laws and most US policy; C) so subdued by the Beltway that they are convinced Congress is not about protecting our freedoms but is merely about 'being there'; D) so enamored by the 'control freak' mentality that they want to share in Clinton's dream of negating every right Americans have.
None of these explanations are good for either Congress or Americans, but I can think of no other reason why US congressmen would let any president steal - steal, mind you - power that has normally been reserved for kings and dictators throughout history.
Does Congress believe Clinton will "allow" them to be a part of his dominatrix mentality? Do they think that Clinton would be a generous dictator and "allow" them the "privilege" of helping him make decisions and decide policy?
Does any power freak have those qualities?
Only men and women who are too cowardly, too stupid, or too crooked to stand up and fight this would not do so. Making excuses that critics of this EO "are just having difficulty understanding what the order really means" are simply defining the ultimate insult to our collective intelligence. When an executive order on 'federalism' mentions nothing about congressional power, mentions nothing about states having the ultimate say in their own destinies, mentions nothing about limited presidential authority [which does not include the right of the Executive Branch to even issue executive orders], then those congressmen who would support such a concept do not deserve to remain in office.
In fact, neither does any president who tries to legitimize dozens of federal agencies which have no constitutional right to exist, have no accountability to the voters, and have no business forcing draconian measures on state and local governments.
This business of American politics has just taken a radical new direction, and it seems as though Congress is collectively too lame to assert itself. Good God, are we in trouble or what?
If I'm wrong about all of this and the intentions of lawmakers on Capitol Hill, then why aren't they answering my challenges [and my phone messages] to explain my inaccuracies about this order? Why aren't those congressmen who have been provided copies of this order worried enough to even look it over? Why are some pompous senators - one who ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 1996 - singing praises about an executive order which empowers federal agencies to do things which normally trigger Justice investigations and hearings?
Why, indeed.
Congress, if you still care enough to listen, Executive Order #13083 will effectively render the Constitution moot sometime around mid-August of this year. I've made some harsh allegations against you because of your stoicism over this issue. I dare any of you to prove me wrong.
If you do, I'll be the first to admit it. ***
