A few days ago, the Washington based Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice (CJCJ) released an interesting report on school crime that blows away the smoke and exposes many of the myths the socialists in the public school education industry use to indoctrinate American children.

Through its research division, the Justice Policy Institute (JPI), the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice documents that today's juvenile homicide rate is the lowest since 1966. Yet, the number of youth suspended on an annual basis has nearly doubled over the same period.

The group questions the "zero tolerance" foolishness so popular with far-left educators lately. "Today's high school seniors are no more likely than their parents were to be assaulted, injured, threatened or robbed in high school," says Vincent Schiraldi, a criminologist who has headed the CJCJ since 1985. "Ironically, today's students are much more likely to be suspended than their parents were. We need to question why a well-behaved generation is being so severely punished by being denied access to education."(2)

The report shows that the concern over school violence has been fanned by intense media coverage of random incidents like the Columbine High School shooting and a 24-7 news cycle. As media coverage of juvenile crime goes up, the public is starting to think it's happening more, even though it is not.

"The increase in suspensions seems to have little to do with serious school crime, which has not risen," says Jason Ziedenberg, JPI Senior Policy Analyst. "When youth are kicked out of school, they are more likely to get into fights, carry a weapon and engage in reckless behavior. Aggressive suspension policies may actually put youth at risk."

Of course "zero tolerance" has very little, if anything, to do with crime. It is basically a control thing, part of the far-left's indoctrination technique to create a nation of obedient little human robotrons who will never dare think or act outside of the "politically correct" envelope.

Some of us who are old enough might remember the outrage Americans had with the former Soviet Union's practice of using strong psychotropic chemicals and strange psychiatric "reconditioning" of people refusing to act like good little communists. On the other hand, perhaps it is good that most Americans do not know about that. Because, today, the far-left American public school education industry is doing the very same thing to American children.

In some American public schools, nearly a third of the boys are forced to take one chemical or another to alter behavior. Children who misspeak or like to horseplay are regularly sent off for weeks of behavior modification "counseling" where they are indoctrinated into the "politically correct" method of behavior desired by liberals.

Competition between students is now often forbidden. Self expression, especially if it is conservative expression, is forbidden. Religious expression, especially by Christians, is forbidden. Pride and celebration, especially for Caucasians and males, is forbidden. Excellence and productivity are suddenly frowned upon because they "might" leave another student behind who could then "feel" bad.

The federal government has spent more than $125-billion on education over the last 25 years, with negative results. SAT scores have dropped 37 points since 1967. Yet, the socialists in the public school education industry continuously demand more money. Grade inflation in public schools is up. Scholastic ability over the past 40 years is way down. But, the socialists in the Democrat Party demand an increase in the federal education expenditure from $18.4-billion this year to $33-billion in the 2002-03 school year.

Apparently, the far-left public school education industry needs the extra money for their increasingly active program of mind altering drugs and behavioral modification indoctrination. We say that with only slight reservation because there have been no programs forthcoming to raise the scholastic ability of children as the cost per student increases. Just the opposite, in fact. School districts, like the one in Washington, D.C. -- which has the highest cost per student in the nation -- also usually produce the lowest scholastic ability per student graduated. Most of the graduating students are, however, good little socialists.

That seems to be the goal of the far-left public school education industry: Training good little socialists. The public school education industry is training workers for the "Third Way" society Clinton, Lieberman(3), 150 Members of Congress, and their sycophants in the liberal national media are working to implement.

Truly, this is not beneficial "for the children." Unfortunately, many parents in the United States are allowing this to happen without a word.

It's the largest cash-crop in my State. Besides what is cultivated, the stuff grows wild like weeds everywhere. In fact, a couple years ago, a nice sized, fully developed patch of the best domestic version was spotted growing in the median of the Interstate highway. No one noticed until fall, when the pretty blue flowers developed.

Yeah, marijuana.

If I were a "toker," I would be in heaven around here. It seems to grow wild in all sorts of strange places -- especially in those not very accessible wooded places down by the river. Alas, I'm rather allergic to the stuff.

If I smell marijuana burning, it aggravates my nose and I start sneezing if I don't quickly get away from the smoke. But, it's out in nature where it really gets to me. When it's damp out, like on a misty morning, I seem to be able to smell that stuff a quarter-mile away. Then, I really start with the sneezing and coughing. I have no idea why that is and I have no intention of experimenting to find out. That's just how it is.

Which means, of course, there are a whole lot of people around here who should be very happy I am not a cop.

Did I mention that marijuana is this State's largest cash crop? Mostly because the federal government interfered in just about everything people can do to make a living in this State, it is. There is good money in growing those "weeds" and government's environmental regulation nerds put the kibosh on just about everything that was legal. People still have to make enough money to keep up a home and eat, so that's the way it goes.

So, even if I do break into a conniption fit of sneezing once in a while, I will never interfere with those who may be "growing" a little commercial product here and there. My practice is to walk the other way before I actually see the stuff -- and begin sneezing.

But, this also puts me in a unique position to talk about both hemp and regular marijuana. I have repeatedly proposed that our State Legislators allow industrial hemp to be grown in this State. That would go far in decreasing cultivation of the smoking kind and would be a great source of inexpensive, high quality paper for some of the major printers we have here. Sure, I would probably still sneeze near the industrial hemp pants -- although that has yet to be determined for certain.

The "excuse" Commonwealth Legislators give for not approving the cultivation of industrial hemp in this State as a cash crop is that police say they cannot tell the difference between the industrial and the smoking kind. That is silliness personified, of course.

Any police officer seeing forty acres of hemp growing in nice rows on a farm should have enough common sense to know that it ain't likely "Farmer Joe" is planting the smoking stuff out in plain sight. If a farmer wanted to grow the smoking kind, ten to one he would grow the stuff back where he did before industrial hemp became legal to grow. In which case, the police would not see it.

Besides, the plants look somewhat different. Which means, police could be trained to know industrial hemp on sight. Sure, that might mean that the officer needs to get out of the car and go look once in a growing season, but that is no big deal. Few farmers would be fooling around with marijuana, anyway. There are good bucks to be made in industrial hemp, this is an optimum area of the country to grow it and it is a relatively easy crop to deal with.

Besides, industrial hemp would stimulate some very interesting industry in this State. Without giving out any proprietary information, we know of at least two major corporations that would move most of their facilities here -- with many, many well paying jobs -- if this were an industrial hemp producing State. Furthermore, more large printers would also be attracted because of the inexpensive, high quality paper.(1)

Of course, as much as I personally repel from the stuff, I also believe that ordinary marijuana should be legalized.(2) It is probably better for humans than hard liquor. Other then the present legal prohibitions, it certainly causes less personal interaction problems in society. And, if taxed and regulated like alcohol, its distribution could be limited to adults.

Politicians are _still_ publicly talking about that mythical Social Security Trust Fund and the imaginary "lock box." Unfortunately, the media sycophants interviewing these politicians allow them to get away with this double-talk.

There is no "trust fund" because all of the Social Security tax goes immediately to the general fund and gets spent. If it were not, the federal budget would be running far in the red.

The only way that condition may be stopped is for Congress to do it's job properly and demonstrate some fiscal responsibility. That is, the federal government must take the lead of industry in these fiscal matters and schedule a 10% across the board lay-off of all personnel and a downsizing of all federal programs. Otherwise, everything they say is just another lie piled on top of the rest. This farce is making Republicans sound and act exactly like Democrats.

In last week's "save the children" news, a report out of Great Britain shows something we have been reporting for years: The energy emitted by cell phones does harm to the human brain.(1) A Swedish scientist found that people who used mobile phones for two hours a day in the 1980s and early 1990s have a "significantly raised" risk of developing a brain tumor.

Of course! From the time police cars first started using two-way radios, medical practitioners have noticed all sorts of problems caused by the radio frequency energy emitted when the head of the user is not properly shielded. This action is significantly worse for the developing brains of children and we look for a wide range of problems to be reported within the next couple years.

In another interesting matter, environmental whackos were taken aback by a statement released by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the American Geophysical Union and Boston University last week. It seems that the eco-whackos were wrong and we were correct. A little extra CO2 in the atmosphere can be quite beneficial to humans and other mammals roaming this Earth. That's because plants will prosper from the availability of more CO2 and hence, grow more food for the rest of us.

According to NASA(2), Earth's northern hemisphere is a somewhat greener place than it was 20 years ago. Some areas now have denser vegetation and a longer growing season. In the areas above 40 degrees north latitude -- which includes New York City, Madrid and Beijing -- satellite data show plants have been growing more vigorously since 1981. Which means, as we reported numerous times, more crops will grow.

The United Nations was also up to its usual silliness last week. They scheduled a conference on racism -- in Africa, where they still hack each other to death on a regular basis, make war against white people and sell their daughters into prostitution.

No matter, the communist and socialist leaders of dictatorial African nations found it advantageous to badger European and U.S. representatives about us paying them reparations for the "damage done" by slavery. Not one word, though, about those in Africa still capturing and selling slaves. Convenient omission, there.

Closer to home, Democrat Party poster boy Rep. Gary Condit's father says the devil is to blame for his son's problems.(3) "Satan had a big-time role in this," says Adrian Condit, who is a clergyman.

Well . . . let's see here . . . Gary Condit is into homosexual sex, bisexual sex, group sex, bondage and discipline, leather and latex, and, apparently, some very rough stuff mixed in. Among other things, he demands to be dominated to be satisfied.

Not being a minister, I can not say how that may equate to "Satan," per se. We do, however, find Gary Condit to be a rather perverted boy who has absolutely no business holding any position of honor in government.

One problem is, many in Congress will balk at throwing Condit out of office. He might talk, if they do. The key term stated above that pertains to that was "group sex." Condit got caught. The others are not yet exposed. Watch for more of that to come out in the next couple weeks. It will be interesting to learn some of the extracurricular activities of lawmakers while they are in Washington.

Last but not least, Mexican President Vicente Fox came calling at the White House last week. Vinnie the Fox, of course, wants President Bush to open the borders between the U.S. and Mexico so that all Mexicans who wish may come here to work, own property and vote for those socialists who wish to work to dismantle our republican form of government.

Vinnie the Fox has already instituted programs in Mexico to teach his people how to better illegally invade the United States. Yet, we're discussing more immigration with him? Why? He is encouraging his people to violate our laws. This is stupid!

What the federal government should be doing is rounding up a few million illegal aliens and shipping them back to wherever they are from. They dislike our culture, refuse to learn our language and overtax our welfare, medical and education systems. Which means, it is they who have become the "Ugly Americans" they once called us -- and for all the very same reasons.

According to a recent Gallup Poll -- no conservatives there -- only 6% of the American people(4) are in favor of amnesty for the illegal aliens. Gallup found that only 14% of Americans think that immigration to the United States should be increased, while 41% think that it should be decreased.
