AN OPEN LETTER TO JOHN KERRY

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny . . . what great fun you are to watch. Sincerely, I thank you for all the great belly-laughs these past weeks.

Y'know, Johnny, I've been watching political campaigns for well over 40 years and I've seen some really stupid ones. Yours is quickly rising right up there with the top four or five silliest, too. Of course, you don't realize that yet, do you Johnny.

But, Johnny, it's really your own fault. It's a leadership thing and leadership is something you know very, very little about. That will become rather obvious if you just look around your campaign committee a little.

Try it, Johnny. Get a roster of your advisors; the ones left after the publicly identified liars and thieves were culled. Then, cross off all the Clinton supporters. Anyone left? Not many, huh. That's because you have no leadership abilities of your own. So you picked advisors who have other loyalties. You're so self-centered you think they are helping you out. Well, they are. Out of the Presidency.

Come on now, Johnny, think a little. Who's the jerk who instructed you to make that fantasy film for the convention? Who's the joker who talked you into starting your convention speech by saluting and saying "reporting for duty"?

Whoever talked you into campaigning as a war hero did so knowing that is, by far, the most ridiculous theme for a campaign you could possibly choose. I mean, come on now, you originally got into politics by stomping on the backs of veterans -- by publicly disgracing them in writing, in speeches and even in Congressional hearings. What . . . you thought maybe no one would remember?

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny . . . you built yourself a reputation as a Jane Fonda, Tom Hayden "down with the establishment" hippie-type war protester. Now, suddenly, you want people to look at you like some kind of Audie Murphy war hero? Well, Johnny, it ain't going to happen. Not now. Not ever. Not as long as real Vietnam veterans are alive.

Retired Senator Bob Dole hit the nail on the head last weekend: "One day he's saying that we were shooting civilians, cutting off their ears, cutting off their heads, throwing away his medals or his ribbons. The next day he's standing there, 'I want to be president because I'm a Vietnam veteran'. Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served."

Bob Dole was way too kind, actually. You can apologize if you want to, Johnny, and you damn well should. But, the only way you could recoup even a little honor would be to permanently leave public life. You will not, though. Instead, you continue to scratch old wounds, getting directly in the faces of millions of honorable American veterans.

It almost started to work, too. Thousands of Social-Democrats around the country -- past dope smoking, hippy-type war protesters, one and all -- were beginning to show their true hypocritical colors by supporting you. Yeah, the old war protesters were actually thinking about supporting someone claiming to be a war hero. Isn't that an interesting development, Johnny? Just goes to show how much we can trust that crowd . . . how shallow their convictions really run. The hypocritical supporting the rudderless.

Fact is, Johnny, you have been set up for this fall. There is no diabolical conspiracy here. The Clinton cabal just needed a pawn to push out front this year. Someone they know cannot win the election. Someone self-centered enough he will not realize he cannot win. Someone with a record that will insure he cannot win. You're that pawn, Johnny. You're the pawn sacrificed to create a later opening.

Let's face it, Johnny, you're way too undependable for the left to seriously support. Hell, you change positions so frequently you should actually debate yourself! Sure, you're certainly a socialist. But, you're apt to change instantly if you think there are more votes on the right, or a couple bucks to be collected there.

Of course, the right doesn't want you, either. You tried to disgrace our American military and, by so doing, gave aide and comfort to the enemy during time of war. Veterans, whether Democrats or Republicans, will never forget that. And it's the veterans, of both parties, who are going to make you pay.

Well, stupid is as stupid does, Johnny. Which means, Johnny, you got yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place here. But it's a place you made for yourself. You deserve it.

MEDIA TRIES TO SINK SWIFT BOATERS

Can there be such a thing as a conspiracy in the media? There was a lot of talk about that last week. We prefer, however, to call it coordination, rather than conspiracy.

Liberal groups have already spent nearly $70-million on anti-Bush TV ads. Little is mentioned about that by the liberal national media corps. But, let one relatively small group of citizens run a couple 30 second spots against Kerry and all hell breaks loose in the media.

The reason was that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had spent about a half-million bucks in TV spots describing Kerry's lies about being a Vietnam war hero. The group includes Democrats as well as Republicans with a common bond of being swift boat veterans.

So, why does the Swift Boat veterans group get all the media attention for their couple ads when the liberal groups trashing President Bush receive little media attention? Simple. Because the liberal media is working with their friends at the DNC to protect their liberal candidate. One of John Kerry's largest campaign backers is the American media.

Last week, some jokester sent us a quote that is kind of fitting. Those who read history may recognize this:

"The function of political campaigning is not the scientific education of the individual. . . . All political campaigning must be made to appeal to the masses, and its intellectual level should therefore be in accordance with the most limited intelligence of those being addressed. . . . The function of political campaigning is not to provide an interesting diversion for blasé young gentlemen, but to win over the masses . . . constant repetition thousands of times over will succeed in imprinting an idea on the memory of a crowd."

That quote, of course, is not quite correct as written. But, replace the words "political campaigning" with "propaganda" and it would be true. Adolf Hitler wrote that in Mein Kampf.[1] Problem is, propaganda is exactly what we are getting from the left. Socialist propaganda. And it is related with prominence by our liberal national media.

For instance, on August 20, the New York Times started yet another long editorial (Friendly Fire: The Birth of an Anti-Kerry Ad) on their front page[2]. The idea was to disparage the couple hard hitting Swift Boat Veterans for Truth TV spots and their best selling book, "Unfit for Command." Many of the major newspapers then wrote similar hit-pieces attacking the Swifties. That is fine, in itself. They own the paper and the ink and can write anything they wish.

The problem is, they related this stuff as "news" rather than the opinion it actually was. As we see in these media propaganda articles, they would have us believe that John Kerry was somewhat like the hero of Apocalypse Now, rather than just another junior lieutenant with little training and zero experience for the job at hand.

We will not go so far as to say that major newspapers coordinated their articles with the Kerry campaign. But, darn, it sure looks like they did. The propaganda and deception were the same. And, most certainly, these liberal newspapers did not bother to check their facts very well.

Their retractions will probably be somewhere back around the want ad pages. And, yes, there will be retractions and clarifications coming.

Just for fun, let's list a few of these expected retractions. Because, already, Kerry is starting to back off on these points.

Kerry already admitted he was not anywhere near Cambodia on Christmas 1968. According to the Swifties (page 49), Kerry actually took his boat off to look for the Bob Hope USO show then, but misread the charts and maps and got lost. We do not expect Kerry to admit that part -- and are willing to give him a pass on that -- but he is admitting he was not in Cambodia.

Same with that first Purple Heart. Actually, he shot himself. Kerry was playing with a grenade launcher. He fired a grenade to shore, it hit a rock too close in and a little piece of shrapnel came back and got him in the arm. Look for Kerry to admit that soon.

Kerry's third Purple Heart was under dubious circumstances, too. That will soon be explained publicly.

Kerry is also leaning towards apologizing to all Vietnam veterans for his treasonous antics after he returned home. (Too little, too late!)

Meanwhile, the DNC has prepared "brown books" for Kerry-friendly reporters. These books are nothing but out-and-out character assassination attempts on the individual members of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group. The New York Times and Boston Globe, of course, were first to receive this material. Will they use it? Of course! And again, without ever checking their facts first.

So where does all this leave the liberal media after supporting the Kerry lies so adamantly?

We see them as what they are: a major part of the liberal political campaigning machine. Propagandists. Sure, they also relate some hard news. But, as far as their political writing goes, they are strong supporters of the far left.

THE SWIFTIES FOR TRUTH

If there was ever a "Most Valuable Player" award given for a political campaign, this year it would most definitely go to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth[1]. Because they spoke out against a liberal Democrat, these men are getting a constant anal exam by the Kerry campaign and Kerry's socialist cheerleaders in the major media. Yet, no matter the heavy amount of professional media harassment received, the Swifties continue on, walking point, representing American veterans with courage and honor.

And look at that faux war hero, John Kerry, running scared like a little girlie-boy again. With just two little 30 second TV spots, the Swifties have Kerry whining to mama -- in this case, the Federal Election Commission -- "Unfair! Unfair! Please make them stop, Mommy. . . ."

Didn't work, though. Last Tuesday, Federal Election Commission Chairman Bradley Smith defended the right of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth to run commercials against Kerry: "I think it's great we live in a country where 260 average guys can go out and put their point of view out there before the public and influence a major presidential race," Smith said in an interview with Bloomberg television.

The problem with the Swifties TV spots, of course, is that they are so straightforward. The truth. Not a prevarication. Not an exaggeration. And so, nothing like a "normal" political ad. Better yet, most voters in the United States recognize the sincerity of the Swifties.

Will anyone still say that a small group cannot make a big difference in national politics? The Swift Boat Veterans group is made up of but 250-some guys. They started with limited funding, but quickly banked a half-million in donations from over 10,000 contributors. Now, we learn, they raised $2-million from 30,000 people in just a couple weeks. Clearly, other veterans are backing the Swifties.

To some of us, it may sound like the Swifties raised a lot of money. Really though, that's just peanuts in the scheme of things. Look at what the liberals pushing socialism are doing:

Already, far-left groups have spent over $63 million on anti-Bush ads. They are funded by people like liberal billionaire financier George Soros, who has bankrolled MoveOn.org and other groups with single checks totaling more than the Swifties will ever see during this whole campaign cycle. Moveon.org, itself, has already spent over $17-million on anti-Bush ads.

Seventeen of the top 20 groups operating under the 527 code are far-left groups, which are funded with liberal money. They are the "shadow party" of the DNC, as the Clinton cabal calls them, and all operate with unlimited soft money and are not very well scrutinized.

For instance, Hillary supporter Harold Ickes formed two of these "soft money" groups: America Coming Together (ACT) and the Media Fund. Ickes wants to spend over $100 million within the next few weeks to defeat President Bush and help elect Democrats nationwide.

So, as we see, the Swift Boat Veterans are making a very big splash with relatively little funding. The liberal groups, on the other hand, are effectively just splattering in a puddle with their couple-hundred-million bucks.

The reason is simple: the liberal groups are singing to their own choir. Only the already socialist-leaning Yellow-dog-Democrats believe their claptrap. The Swifties, on the other hand, are playing to a crowd of voters who remember exactly how true what they are saying was back in the Vietnam era. And, those of us who remember the antics of the traitorous John Kerry are telling others. That is why it is not an accident that the Swifties book, "Unfit for Command," became an instant best seller -- sitting #2 on the liberal New York Times best seller list last week.

Indeed, the American people are seeing uncommon valor this political season. Those 250 average American citizens have put themselves forward, in the face of constant ridicule from the leftist major media Kerry cheerleaders, for no other reason than to remind the American people of the truth.

Incidentally, the proceeds from their best selling book are going to the Navy & Marine Relief Fund. Clearly, these are uncommonly honorable men.

We should tell them so. Often.
