GOP CONVENTION NOTES

Democratic Party dismay has been mounting since Kerry ____ (fill in the blank with your favorite of any of a dozen things). Stoked by a constant barrage of well documented inconvenient facts coming out about Kerry's background and the ever-increasing popularity of President Bush and Vice President Cheney, the heated arguments between the Kerry campaign and the DNC leadership increase. Add in, too, the rousing success of the GOP convention and it appears we can stick a fork in the Democratic Party now because that goose is just about fully cooked.

Another good barometer, of course, is the mania displayed by the Democrats' cheerleading section, the liberal media, last week. The liberal media now outwardly admit to feeling betrayed by speakers at the GOP convention. Monday, there was media darling John McCain voicing full support for President Bush. Then came Rudy Giuliani with a rip-roaring rendition of Kerry's flip-flops and strong support for Bush. No sooner had the liberals started to recover than California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger brought the house down with a speech Tuesday evening and had Democrats whining because, as they said, Schwarzenegger dropped his "bipartisan image" and was "selling out to a party and president whose views aren't shared by most Californians."

By Wednesday night, Democrats needed their depression medication increased and some in the liberal media looked like they actually might stroke-out right on camera. Because, along came Democratic Senator Zell Miller who, as two major media friends correctly stated to me, "hit a grand slam right out of the park!"

Following Zell on Wednesday was Vice President Dick Cheney, a normally soft-spoken presenter. No fire and brimstone rhetoric there. But, as Rush Limbaugh likes to say, "words mean things" and Dick Cheney -- a man of action, not talk -- used his words succinctly. Apparently the Democrats and the liberal media took every one of Cheney's words to heart, too. Because, as soon as they were done dissing Senator Miller, they turned their vitriol on Cheney.

All this was inside the convention. Outside were a couple thousand previously pro-Kerry, anti-war riffraff assaulting the GOP conventioneers (and local police). Protesters even gathered outside Fox News' headquarters Tuesday claiming that the millions of viewers who tune in to Fox every day are mostly stupid Republicans from middle America.

The Kerry-Edwards campaign remarked they are for the war on terrorism and can win it. This rather perplexed the protesters but, what the heck, they were there and it was a party. The demonstrations, organized by Trotskyites and various anarchist groups (some funded with money from Teresa Kerry's billions), included a large number of "useful idiots" who came simply because there was a party and they could probably find someone easy to hook-up with for a couple days. One should also wonder how these able bodied citizens could afford a week in The Big Apple when, evidently, some of them do not have jobs -- else they would not be there protesting. Someone must be paying them well.

And suddenly it was Thursday night and along came George; as in the Honorable George W. Bush, President of the United States.

Kerry had been carping about no one at the convention mentioning domestic programs. Kerry should have been careful about what he asked for and kept his mouth shut.

Clearly half of President Bush's speech concerned domestic matters very near and dear to the hearts of the American voter. President Bush knows that the most important function of the government is the protection of the people and he made that very clear. Fighting terrorism is a large part of that duty.

George Bush was interrupted 108 times with applause as he presented his Agenda for America for the next four years. "A safer world and a more hopeful America. And nothing can hold us back," was the theme. Labeling various laws -- including the tax code, health care, training, and other programs -- as designed for the world of days gone by, Bush targets them all for streamlining and updating in his second term.

Part of the fixes President Bush alluded to include a new tax code that is a simpler, fairer and pro-growth and also health savings accounts for all who want one.

Obviously, George Bush has his work cut out for him for the next four years. As our Chairman of the Board, the MBA President showed us the outline of his new business plan. He will find that Americans will enthusiastically agree with most of it. A "fair tax" system, personal retirement accounts and medical savings accounts will, collectively, go far to help the pocketbooks of 90% of the American population. Those who are among the very wealthy will not care. But, that could be a very good arrangement for the rest of us.

We can start debating the particulars on each of the many programs next year. Right now, what we see is hope.

COLOR KERRY GONE

Last week I suggested that the people Kerry hired to run his campaign were incompetent and/or probably do not want him to win. Most have strong Clinton loyalties. This week, we hear rumbles that heads are about to roll among the Kerry-Edwards campaign staff.

Of course, there is no way I would believe Kerry reads my babble -- or would act on the information even if he did. But, I'll reiterate: Kerry couldn't be running a worse campaign if he tried.

That's a problem for me, too, actually. Kerry is just too darn easy of a target.

Look at it from my point of view as a political scribbler: I've been collecting well referenced material disparaging to Kerry for the past couple months. Over the past weeks, I have traded (only) referenced information with various veteran groups and Republican activists around the country. Fact is, I have over 800 well-referenced articles from which to rip off information anytime I wish to use the information. I had most of that even before the Swifties book "Unfit for Command" was released and their spots hit the airwaves.

The Swifties are doing a yeoman's job (excuse the pun!) of releasing some of the information, but have not hit on it all yet. Of course, they are far from done. . . .

When the information collection started, there was a plan, an agreement of sorts, between the different groups. That was, we would dummy up about what we had until after the DNC convention was over. The reason was that we did not want to trash Kerry and then have Hillary waltzing up onto the stage at the convention to "save the party" from a dead candidate.

So, the plan was -- I knew almost nothing about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in those days -- that, first, some veterans would publish information concerning Kerry's antics in Vietnam. Later, we would start on Kerry's treasonous activities after leaving the Navy (which I could help with). And last, we would start dissecting Kerry's sorry Senate record.

Well, folks, here were are, just starting September, and the Kerry campaign is already dead in the water.

That sure was quick, huh. I can almost delete my Kerry folder now. Politically, Kerry has lied himself right out of a job -- and maybe out of politics forever. Seriously, if the Democratic Party allows Kerry to continue with this foolishness, I predict President George W. Bush will sweep at least 48 states.

Heck, just look at that silly Kerry campaign nowadays; they are down to parsing every word President Bush says, just to be contrary and have something to say that may hit the news. Even though most of the liberal national media acts like it is part of the Kerry campaign, Kerry is still losing traction more and more every day.

People (even Republicans) are starting to wonder if the Democratic Party actually cares if Democrats win this year. If George Bush wins big, which it seems as he will, he will pull in quite a few new members of Congress on his coattails. That could mean the well-earned demise of the Social-Democrats for at least a decade.

Kerry's biggest blunder was to let Terry McAuliffe -- a staunch Clinton supporter -- stay as chair of the DNC. Last week's heated argument between the Kerry campaign and the DNC was because McAuliffe tried to put Hillary on TV every night of the GOP convention as part of the DNC's "truth squad". McAuliffe, of course, supports the Clintons much more than the Kerry-Edwards ticket, which is making a lot of people wonder what may be going on in the background we don't hear about.

In truth, I do not know if the DNC can legally dump Kerry, an obvious loser, and bring out another candidate at this time. But, what I do know is that the leadership of the DNC supports Hillary, not Kerry. And, I also know that any candidate they run will not have to do fundraising because they will get $75-million for their campaign from the federal government.

Perhaps the DNC is going to sit back and take their losses come November. But, I for one find that hard to believe. I think there may be some shenanigans in the works. Which means, don't be real surprised if there's a quick switch at the head of the ticket this month.

REPORTING ON THE RECORD

Ken Mehlman, Bush campaign manager, told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the campaign should focus on Kerry's judgment during his 20 years in office. We will, too, starting soon. However, Bob Dole said two weeks ago that he can't remember a single piece of legislation that Kerry sponsored.

We can. We can remember a lot of the hateful legislation Kerry supported; legislation that would have definitely been harmful to low and middle-income American families.

Democrats are generally uninformed, politically. In all fairness, many of them are occupied trying to make ends meet and just have no time to pay attention to the candidates' histories. The DNC knows that. That's why they get away with throwing out unfounded catch-phrases and can expect them to stick as if they were truth. And, that is also why uninformed people will vote for any Democrat. They just do not realize how much it will harm their family and style of living later.

For instance, John Kerry supported a 50 cent increase in the fuel tax. For some of us around the country, that could mean we would be paying upwards to $2.40 a gallon now. Yes, it's true, a couple years ago, Kerry joined with Sen. Chuck Robb to increase the federal fuel tax by a dime-a-year, over five years.

Ladies, ask your local grocer what that would do to your food prices. Such a tax would greatly harm the trucking industry and truckers are who deliver all that food you buy for your family. Some airline corporations are having a problem nowadays. Kiss them goodbye, too.

Then there's that little matter of the SUV and minivan the ladies like to drive to chauffeur around the kiddies and do other errands. Perhaps we should explain the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standard to the ladies -- and those who work in the auto industry.

Kerry's Michigan campaign spokesman, Rodell Mollineau, told Kerry to shut up about that. Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) said a couple weeks ago that Kerry "is a guy who is not stupid enough to throw away the votes of the states" with automobile plants by mentioning his CAFE plan.

Fact is, the UAW has yelled about many attempts to raise CAFE standards, including one by Kerry in 2002 to raise them from 24 m.p.g. to 36 m.p.g. by 2015.

Michigan Republican Party spokesman Matt Davis said Kerry's desire to raise fuel-efficiency standards will cost Michigan jobs. "It would kill SUV production," said Davis. "It translates into Michigan jobs." Sure it does. Thousands of jobs would be gone.

Interesting that. The UAW has been fighting these Kerry job killing proposals for nearly two decades. Yet, for some strange reason, the UAW now supports Kerry for president. Stupid!

Ladies, if either you or your husband depend on a paycheck from the auto or transportation industry, y'all better start paying attention because John Kerry has never been a friend.

Kerry will get you when you are retired, too. He voted to tax Social Security benefits. Kerry has also voted against every plan to keep the Social Security fund solvent.

At the Democratic National Convention, Kerry told us he would not raise taxes and: "I will not privatize Social Security. I will not cut benefits."

That's an interesting statement. It shows that Kerry has not paid very close attention while a senator. Because, overall, Social Security faces unfunded liabilities in excess of $26-trillion. If he will not raise taxes or cut benefits, we have to wonder where Kerry plans to get the money. Even former President Bill Clinton pointed out there are really only three options for Social Security reform: raise taxes, cut benefits, or invest privately. Kerry rejected all three. There are some workable plans on the table[1], but Kerry totally rejects them.

Which means, of course, Kerry would go with raising taxes. And, that means there would have to be: a 50 percent increase in the payroll tax, or the equivalent. Therefore, the lowest paid wage earners would feel that sting the most.

But, again, these lowest paid wage earners are the ones most likely to vote for Kerry. Go figure.

Yes, there is a lot to be said about Kerry's tax and spend record in the Senate. A whole lot. But, that is expected from a limousine liberal who is to the left even of Ted Kennedy. What is not really explainable is why working people would want this limousine liberal as their president.
